The NAACP wants to congratulate the City of Champaign on their excellent choice and appointment of Anthony Cobb as our next Chief of Police.  We look forward to supporting and working with Chief Cobb as he embarks on his new endeavor, as well as, our continued work with City Staff and Council members.  Community policing has been a major concern of the NAACP.  Chief Cobb has exhibited strong leadership and experience in this area.  Chief Cobb brings to the position experience, leadership, energy, compassion, integrity, and a great sense of community.  The NAACP is proud to have been a part of this historic event and we see this as a positive first step in the right direction for improving community and police relationships in Champaign.

Start the year off right by committing to your local NAACP chapter.  Join us this Thursday, January 5th, at 7:15pm at the Champaign Public Library for the first meeting of the year.   Hear about what the Champaign County Chapter of NAACP is doing and how you can get involved.

Through November 20th, in partnership with the Champaign Mayor’s office, the Glory Center, Family Video, Meijer, PrimeSol, and Steve Harvey, the NAACP is aiming to put a dent in hunger in our community by collecting bags stuffed with the follow items:

• Mac-N-Cheese
• Cereal
• Rice & beans
• Canned Fruit
• Canned Veggies
• Spaghetti & Spaghetti Sauce
• Peanut Butter
• Soup
• Jell-O
• Snacks

1 in 4 children in Champaign County encounters hunger.  A new US Census report states that 1 in 3 children in the U.S. is living in poverty.  This is a small drop in the bucket, but definitely a starting place.  Your donations can be dropped off at any of the Champaign or Urbana Family Videos.
