Sistering CU -“Every Mother Counts”

May 21, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The NAACPCC will be partnering with Sistering CU) Co-sponsoring an event called “Every Mother Counts.” In the United States, pregnancy related death is on the rise across the board. But, it is even 3 to 4 times worse for African Americans. We have a crisis of reproductive justice. Therefore, “When the Bough Breaks” explores the question: Why do African American Women at every socio-economic level have higher rates of preterm birth and infant mortality than white women who haven’t finished high school or Black women who immigrated from other countries? Researchers look at how the chronic stress of racism impact birth outcomes as well as how civic engagement and racial justice can improve health outcomes. After assessing the issues that mothers of color face today, we will look at what our community and nation can do to better support them because every mother counts. The event is being held on May 21, 2019 at 7pm at the Champaign Public Library.
